ductless mini-split systemsWhen considering the many options for heating and cooling, you should think about whether a mini-split system might be right for your comfort needs. Most people in the US are not yet familiar with this kind of system, but it is the dominant choice in the world market, which was first introduced about 30 years ago. A mini-split is an appealing alternative to a window or a through-the-wall unit, used to condition a specific space, or an alternative to central air conditioning. A mini-split system consists of an indoor unit that houses the blower, typically mounted 7.5-8.5 feet above the floor, which is piped to a condensing unit on the outside of the building. Configurations vary, allowing from one to eight indoor units per outdoor unit.

Mini-splits are much less obtrusive, quieter, and more energy efficient than a window or through-the-wall space heating and cooling option. Plus, they are vastly more energy efficient than central systems. Their energy efficiency ratings are significantly higher and mini-splits eliminate duct loss, a severe energy liability for central systems. Mini-split systems come in a range of sizes and configurations. Each building is unique, requiring different solutions, and one of Gilley’s experienced ‘Whole House’ Experts will be glad to help you determine which system meets your needs.

Mini-splits can have three energy efficiency ratings, a SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) and an EER (Energy Efficiency Rating) for the cooling function and HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) for the heating function. Just like your miles per gallon ratio, the higher the rating, the less energy is consumed. By law, the SEER must be at least 14 and can go as high as 26 and the HSPF must be at least a 7.7 and can go as high as 10. We will present you with a range of system options so you can make an informed decision. Because of Monroe-West Monroe’s extreme summer weather, which puts serious strain on your system and your energy bill, Gilley’s recommends at least a SEER of 15, an EER of 12.5, and an HSPF of 8.5. There are usually incentives to help you achieve this standard. On a single zone system, we are usually able to install a minimum 20 SEER system.

Although there are many benefits of a mini-split system, there are some considerations to be aware of. Get in touch with Gilley’s for more details either by phone or Click Here to schedule your appointment today. One of our ‘Whole House’ Experts will be happy to give you a free estimate.
